When I invited my mother to come and live with my family, we had to make some changes to accommodate her. The changes that needed to be made were all within reason and were all required so that she could get around with her walker and eventually a wheelchair if need be. I hired a remodeling contractor to assist us with making the changes. I learned a lot while discussing what needed to be done and what it would take to get it complete. I created this blog with the hopes of helping other families that are considering making the same changes in their homes.

Changing Your Kitchen Cabinets Will Make Your Kitchen Look Different

Sometimes you may want to redo your kitchen so that it looks different, but you might not have the money to do it. Doing a full renovation can be really expensive, and it can be invasive. However, there are some things that you can do that are relatively inexpensive to do and some additional changes that are not very invasive to do. One of the things that you can do is change up your kitchen cabinets. 

New Cabinets

You can just go and buy new cabinets altogether. Many home improvement stores will have a wide variety of cabinets that you can choose from. If you feel like you are moderately handy, you could probably install them in your kitchen yourself. Otherwise, you can talk to the place where you buy them from to see if you can hire an installer. The cabinets shouldn't take very long to install. Before you go shopping for cabinets, make sure that you spend the time measuring the space where you want to put your cabinets, including the height measurement. You don't want to buy new cabinets only to find out that they don't fit. You could just measure the existing cabinets if you want them to stay the same size. 

New Paint

If buying new cabinets is out of your budget, you can try painting or staining them. You will probably want to take them off the wall in order to do this because some products you will use to strip the paint or stain will require you to work in a ventilated space. Taking the cabinets off the wall will also keep you from spilling anything on your counters or on your floors. Changing the way that your cabinets look by changing the color that they are can really change the feel of a room. For example, if you feel like your kitchen is really dark, and your cabinets are painted or stained a dark color, you can take them down, and paint them white. When you put them back up, they will lighten up your kitchen and make it feel not quite as dark. 

An easy and relatively inexpensive way to change the way that your kitchen looks is to change your kitchen cabinets. Since they take up so much space in your kitchen they are quite obvious, so making a change to them will make your kitchen look like it had a facelift.
