About Me

remodeling to acommodate an elderly loved one

When I invited my mother to come and live with my family, we had to make some changes to accommodate her. The changes that needed to be made were all within reason and were all required so that she could get around with her walker and eventually a wheelchair if need be. I hired a remodeling contractor to assist us with making the changes. I learned a lot while discussing what needed to be done and what it would take to get it complete. I created this blog with the hopes of helping other families that are considering making the same changes in their homes.

4 Ways To Make A Small Bathroom Feel More Spacious

As a homeowner, you may appreciate living in a house with multiple bathrooms that your family can use. But, you may know that one of the bathrooms is small enough to feel a bit restrictive at times. If you are open to hiring remodeling professionals to work on the bathroom remodel, you should come up with a few projects that you can hire them to handle to get the results that you seek.

Storage Space

If you have a large vanity or a storage cart in the bathroom to help you get a lot of storage space for bathroom products, you may want to downsize or replace these things. For instance, you can replace a deep vanity with a tall and long one that takes up less overall space. As for any storage furniture set up inside the bathroom, you should invest in floor to ceiling cabinetry instead.

By going with this cabinetry setup, you can plan on getting the same amount of storage space or even more while also making the bathroom feel more spacious.

Sliding Door

While you may be used to using standard interior doors throughout the house, you should consider switching to a sliding door for the bathroom. This will prevent you from having to leave enough room for the door to open completely. Also, whenever the bathroom door is open, you will find that it takes up a decent amount of space that you could be using for other things.

Even if you set up furniture after gaining space in the bathroom, you will likely find the bathroom feeling more spacious because an interior door is often a huge visual obstacle.

Bathtub

Although you may have a small bathroom, you may notice that your bathtub is large, which can contribute to making the room feel small in the first place. When you are determined to make the bathroom feel larger, you can replace the tub with a small and standalone soaking tub. Getting rid of the bathtub deck alone should make a noticeable difference with roominess.

Shower

If you have a decent-sized walk-in shower, you can work with remodelers to downsize it and bring more space to the main area of the bathroom. When you want to avoid making such changes, you can replace a frosted glass shower door with a clear one to make the room feel larger.

Taking on some or all these projects is worth considering when you want a small bathroom in your house to feel more spacious.
