About Me

remodeling to acommodate an elderly loved one

When I invited my mother to come and live with my family, we had to make some changes to accommodate her. The changes that needed to be made were all within reason and were all required so that she could get around with her walker and eventually a wheelchair if need be. I hired a remodeling contractor to assist us with making the changes. I learned a lot while discussing what needed to be done and what it would take to get it complete. I created this blog with the hopes of helping other families that are considering making the same changes in their homes.

Remodeling Your Home? Three Reasons You Should Add a Drawing Room

Now that you're remodeling your home, you might want to consider adding a drawing room. If you hadn't been thinking about including a drawing room in your home-remodeling plans, you should. This is particularly true if you do a lot of entertaining. You see, the drawing room provides you with the perfect transitional space for after-dinner entertainment. Not sure how you'd utilize a drawing room in your home? Here are three ways a drawing room will provide you with the space you need.

Provides a Relaxed Flow from the Dining Room

When you host a dinner party at your home, you want everything to be perfect for your guests. Part of that perfection includes the after-dinner conversation. If you have a drawing room in your home, you can use it as a way to transition your guests from the dining room. Once you and your guests have moved to the drawing room, you can continue the evening by serving after-dinner drinks and enjoying conversation in a relaxed atmosphere.

Allows for Inclusion of Elegant Details

If you have children, you're probably going to kid-proof the décor as much as possible. However, just because you have kids doesn't mean that you don't want to have an area in your home that's geared towards adults. That's where the drawing room comes in. When you add a drawing room to your new home, you can decorate it the way you'd like. You can even include plenty of elegant details if you choose to. Once the room is decorated, you can set that area aside as a kid-free zone.

Allows a Room for the Arts

If you and your family enjoy the arts, you can turn your new drawing room into an area where you can enjoy reading, drawing, or listening to music. A drawing room is the perfect space to put plenty of big, comfy chairs, coffee tables, desks, and bookshelves. Once your drawing room is filled with modern furnishings, you and your family will be able to spend your evenings enjoying the arts in the comfort of your own home. If your kids are going to be spending a lot of time in the drawing room, be sure to scotch-guard your new furnishings, though.

Now that you're planning to remodel your home, make sure you add the right elements. A drawing room will allow you to entertain guests or enjoy making family memories.
